Mobility in Denmark
Mobility in Denmark
In Denmark, on 1 January 2023, 2,537,249 petrol and diesel cars were driving around Denmark. Despite the high number, it was fortunately a decrease from 2022. At the same time, the number of electric cars increased in 2023 to 169,026. The Danes want to go in a green direction, and this is reflected in their purchasing patterns. But we are in a hurry, and without a strong political agenda that pushes us forward in the right direction, we will not reach the goal of the green transition before it is too late.
Volt has concrete solutions that will push the new trends we already see and enable Danes to make the right environmental choices in everyday life. So to support the green transition, we will:
Low environmental zones in larger cities, where the focus is on cycle paths, public transport and shared cars.
Organize a complete European charging network so that you will never experience 'range anxiety' (the fear of not reaching the next charging station) again.
Ban cars that run on fossil fuels.
These are just some of our initiatives, read on to see how we will push the green transition through strong public transport.
Public transport in Denmark
Public transport is suffering in Denmark. Prices continue to rise and this will keep the consumer from taking public transport. According to Forbrugerrådet Tænk, Danes would like to use public transport, but it must be able to make sense - which is far from the case. For example, figures from Denmark's statistics show that 1 million Danes do not have access to public transport 500 meters from their home, and that 1 million Danes only have access to 4-5 departures per hour.
Volt will change that. We strive to:
Create a complete European train network where all of Europe, including Denmark, invests in both long, medium and short distances. In this way, we can connect all corners of Denmark with each other and Europe.
In general, strengthen all environmentally friendly forms of travel - that is, a boost to buses and public transport in general.
Public transport is important to Volt. We move forward - together. For us, the green transition must embrace everyone, and no one must feel left behind. This is how we create change, and this is how we reach the goal of environmentally friendly transport in Denmark and Europe.
We believe that a green transition can be made without neglecting people's needs: If you live in a place where it is completely impossible to take public transport due to low population density or a long journey to work, then you must be able to buy an electric car and know that there are charging stations when you need them. If you live in a medium-sized city, there must be buses that you can hop on several times an hour, and trains that can go out to the smaller surrounding cities. There's no point in halving public transport. No one benefits from that. If we as a society go all the way, it can be a joy for many, both in the climate account and the bank account.
